Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter present Ina Otzko’s project NEWS.

The work consists of a neon installation forming the initials of the four cardinal directions N/E/W/S. Video portraits of four persons from Kirkenes that the artist has invited to talk about the subject NEWS, are to be shown in connection with the work in neon. How does NEWS from the world outside influence them and the society in Kirkenes?
The project is a reflection on how people always bring news in one form or another to the place or the people they visit. Whether they are municipality, county or country borders being crossed, there will always be exchange of information.
The question asked by the artist is what happens with the individual living in Kirkenes and with the community in general after these meetings, visits and exchanges? What challenges and possibilities will they meet, and what expectations do they have before as well as after the confrontations with the visitors’ NEWS?
